Do Your Research<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>\u00a0Its all about economics \u2013 the higher the supply \u2013 the lower the demand \u2013 the lower the salary \u2013 versus the Lower the Supply \u2013 Higher the Demand \u2013 your salary will grow higher\u2026<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the subject of salary will always come up in your first interview, you are advised not to negotiate at this point. Before the interview, research the typical salary range for similar roles in your industry, location, and level of experience. Websites like Glassdoor, PayScale, or LinkedIn Salary Insights can provide valuable data. Negotiate with data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If what you bring to the table is easily found in your location and market, its likely your salary will be lower.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.<strong>Know Your Worth &amp; Sell Yourself During Your Interview.<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 29%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ultimately, people buy people. If you are able to sell your \u201cvalue add\u201d during your interview, focusing on the potential impact, growth and value you will bring, if hired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0It is your job to ensure that you position yourself as the best candidate for the organisation.\u00a0 Nowadays,\u00a0 companies don\u2019t just hire skills and experience \u2013 they hire people for cultural fit. Evaluate the overall compensation package to ensure it aligns with your needs and priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The role itself needs to be included in this evaluation \u2013 what will this new job offer in terms of your growth and development \u2013 will it offer leadership experience, perhaps a new region or market?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Determine what you need in terms of your career development by establishing your must haves and your nice-to-have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. \u00a0Set Your Limit<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be willing to walk away from an offer below your minimum salary limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ultimately, it is up to us to acknowledge our own value \u2013 set your minimum limit for your salary and do not waiver.&nbsp; Assert your value throughout the negotiation process. Avoid being overly aggressive or confrontational, as it can sour the relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.\u00a0<strong>Negotiate with Confidence: Timing Matters<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wait for the right moment to discuss salary during the interview process. Ideally, wait until the employer brings up the topic or until you\u2019ve received a job offer. This allows you to demonstrate your value before discussing the salary.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>It is unlikely that your negotiation will end with you receiving an immediate \u201cyes\u201d.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Approach negotiations with confidence, remember that salary negotiation is a standard part of the hiring process, and employers expect candidates to advocate and negotiate for themselves within reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6.<strong>Practice Makes Perfect \u2013 Role-play the negotiation!<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Practice Negotiation Scenarios: Role-play negotiation scenarios with a friend, colleague or your Career Coach to build confidence and refine your approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to answer a typical salary question: What is your current salary?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-top\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are likely to be asked this question during your first interview.&nbsp; Avoid, where possible, to give your exact current basic salary.&nbsp; Explain that you are at the early phases of the interview and are more interested to understand about the role, the culture of organisation etc.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emphasise, you would be more than happy to share your total package and payslips etc. BUT at this stage, you are happy to give your expectations.&nbsp; When giving your expectations do so in a range format: this is my minimum to my ideal \u2013&nbsp; avoid giving one particular number and focus on giving a salary range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>ASK Questions \u2013 BEFORE YOU ANSWER!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, I would be happy to share my expectations, BUT can you tell me what your salary band\/ budget for this role?
